There’s a bit of mystery around the soap. The Bee Shop produces the Queen Bee Gardener’s honey soap with calendula, which has the same shape of the soap seen in Claire’s bathroom. The hexagon shape is very common among soap makers, though.
Chanel has just released a new commercial for Chanel no, 5, The One That I Want. Directed by Baz Luhrmann and starring Gisele Bündchen, it features a love story, a fashion shooting session and a beautiful surfing opening sequence, plus a Grease-inspired soundtrack.
I’m disappointed by this highly anticipated commercial, because the atmosphere is ordinary (Bündchen is portrayed as a supermodel/mother, which is who she actually is) and the dreamy/wow factor is totally missing. This is a Luhrmann commercial, and we know he can do way better than this.
My favourite moment? The one which features the iconic perfume and a nude pink lipstick, of course.

I think the nail polish bottles on the left are by Maybelline: I remember they had a similar packaging in the 1990s.

Tara (Maggie Siff) and Gemma (Katey Sagal) talk about Luann’s favourite perfume. Gemma’s description (“smelled like cum and patchouli”) makes me think of heady hippie scents from the 1970s.
Chanel Coco body lotion and a Chanel nail polish can be seen on Zoe’s bedside table.
I’m posting a picture of Rouge Noir because it’s the first Chanel dark polish which comes to my mind, but it’s clear it can’t be the shade seen in this film. As a matter of fact, Rouge Noir was released in 1995, six years after New York Stories.
A spray bottle of Guerlain Mitsouko can be seen on the dressing table of Marian Seldes, the American actress who passed away yesterday. This beautiful portrait was taken by Rivka Katvan behind the scenes of Deuce, the Terrence McNally play which ran on Broadway in 2007.
