There’s Guerlain Shalimar in the beautiful flacon chauve souris on a dressing table in Peggy Olson’s bedroom.
Created in 1925 by Jacques Guerlain, it’s undeniably one of the most famous perfumes of all times. You may remember another protagonist of the TV show (Joan Holloway, played by Christina Hendricks) wears the same perfume.

KARD’s Ring the Alarm (2022)
The South Korean co-ed group KARD have recently released Re:, their fifth mini album. The first music video from the album, Ring the Alarm, features an interesting make-up product.
It’s a lipstick by the South Korean brand Dear Dahlia.
The lipstick doesn’t simply appear in the opening sequence: later in the video one of the members of the group, Jeon So-min, applies it on her lips.
Basic Instinct (1992)
Nick (Michael Douglas) is spending the night at Catherine’s so, when he goes into her huge bathroom, we know some intriguing products will be featured.
The first beauty product I’ve noticed is a spray can of Evian mineral water.
The tall pump bottle is Very Emollient body lotion by Alba Botanica. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to find any picture of it online.
Next there’s a Clinique anti-perspirant roll-on deodorant.
This is a real treat: we get to see the fragrance used by Catherine! It’s Montana Parfum de Peau in the beautiful spiral bottle (a stunning design by Serge Mansau). This leather fragrance, created by Jean Guichard, was launched in 1986 and it still is one of the most aenigmatic scents of that decade; that is why I think it beautifully compliments the protagonist’s mysterious and wild personality.
The container on the far right is still a mystery: when I first saw it, I was sure it was part of the Parfum de Peau line (a body lotion or talcum powder), but it’s not. If you have any idea about its identity, please drop me a line.

California Suite (1978)
Diana Barrie (Maggie Smith) is a British actress who is in Los Angeles after getting her first Oscar nomination. While she’s sitting in her in-suite bathroom at the Beverly Hills Hotel, we can see several toiletries on the pink marble counters around her.
The yellow stick on her right is Jean Naté cologne stick.
On her left there’s the iconic boule noire of Lanvin Arpège, created by Paul Vacher and Andre Fraysse and launched in 1927.

Stranger Things S04E07 (The Massacre at Hawkins Lab)
There are two Avon fragrances on a dresser in Nancy Wheeler’s bedroom.
One is a teddy bear decanter with gold stopper (the bear’s head). It’s impossible to know what Avon fragrance it houses, because the same bottle was used for different scents.
The second bottle first made its appearance in Season 1: it’s Miss Lollypop cologne mist, a gourmand (candy) fragrance launched in 1967.

A casa nostra (2006)
There’s an empty bottle of Acqua di Giò by Giorgio Armani on a counter in Elodie’s hotel bathroom. This is the original bottle of the fruity floral fragrance created by Edouard Fléchier and launched in 1995.
One of my fondest memories from that decade: I have personally never worn it but my sister did and she loved it.
On the same counter there’s also a bottle of Tommy by Tommy Hilfiger, a citrus aromatic fragrance created by Annie Buzantian and Alberto Morillas and launched in 1995.

The Crown S02E05 (Marionettes)
In 1956 Queen Elizabeth II (Claire Foy) gets a haircut in her bedroom. She has two small round tables near her, and on one of them there are two interesting bottles. Both are Penhaligon’s perfumes.
The bottle with dark blue ribbon is the now sadly discontinued Cornubia, a luscious white floral fragrance first launched in 1910 with the name Cornubia Bouquet and re-launched in 1995.
The dark red ribbon marks a legendary fragrance by Penhaligon’s – Hammam Bouquet. This amber woody scent, created by William Penhaligon, was first launched in 1872. Although heavily reformulated, this is still available on the market.
It’s interesting to notice that Hammam Bouquet appears in an episode from Season 1 in the bathroom of the Duke of Windsor – a detail which connects the two members of the Royal Family, at least in the fictional version of their lives.
I found no evidence that Elizabeth II has ever worn these two fragrances. Most rumours point towards something very different – Floris White Rose (which she probably wore on her wedding day) and Guerlain L’Heure Bleue.
The Dropout E08 (Lizzy)
