Basic Instinct (1992)

Nick (Michael Douglas) is spending the night at Catherine’s so, when he goes into her huge bathroom, we know some intriguing products will be featured.

The first beauty product I’ve noticed is a spray can of Evian mineral water.

The tall pump bottle is by Alba Botanica. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to find any picture of it online, so I have no idea what product it was. Probably a body lotion or a face cleanser.

Next there’s a Clinique anti-perspirant roll-on deodorant.

This is a real treat: we get to see the fragrance used by Catherine! It’s Montana Parfum de Peau in the beautiful spiral bottle (a stunning design by Serge Mansau). This leather fragrance, created by Jean Guichard, was launched in 1986 and it still is one of the most aenigmatic scents of that decade; that is why I think it beautifully compliments the protagonist’s mysterious and wild personality.

The container on the far right is still a mystery: when I first saw it, I was sure it was part of the Parfum de Peau line (a body lotion or talcum powder), but it’s not. If you have any idea about its identity, please drop me a line.

Raffaella Carrà’s Dressing Room (1983)

In 1983 the popularity of the Italian showgirl Raffaella Carrà was about to peak: in that year she would start hosting Pronto, Raffaella?, one of the most successful tv programmes of the decade. Angelo Deligio took these wonderful pictures of Raffaella in her dressing room, surrounded by beauty products, personal items (see the Louis Vuitton Monogram Canvas box above) and design objects [1].

lancome_vintagetoniquedouceur_bornunicornThe first beauty products that have captured my attention are by Lancôme. Raffaella used the classic toner/cleansing milk duo: the toner is Tonique Douceur, while the cleansing milk is Galatéis Douceur.

maxfactor_panstikvintage_bornunicornBy the mirror there’s also Max Factor Pan Stik, along with a tiny bottle of Imidazyl eye drops and a box of Chicco cotton buds.

This picture was taken on the opposite side of the room. The Lancôme duo is still visible, but next to Raffaella there’s another intriguing bottle.

jeannegatineauvintage_bornunicornHere it is again. It’s a Jeanne Gatineau product, probably an oil make-up remover. The trademark pink packaging can be found in the first picture, too, where a pink box sits by the mirror.

evianspraywater_bornunicornIf we move to the opposite side of the room, next to Raffaella, there are other two products – Schwarzkopf Taft hairspray and Evian spray mineral water.

The Hunger (1983)

thehunger_bornunicornThe moment in which a movie character opens a bathroom cabinet is always thrilling. I personally get the chills because I know I’m about to see something interesting in it. Sarah Roberts’ cabinet, for example, is a very simple but intriguing one.

vintagejohnsonsbabypowder_bornunicornOn the bottom shelf there are a spray bottle of Evian Water and a bottle of Johnson’s Baby Powder.

guerlain_vetiveraftershave_bornunicornI’m a bit on the fence when it comes to the glass bottle on the bottom shelf. It’s definitely a flacon de voyage by Guerlain (see the plastic ring around the stopper), but the bottle looks larger than usual.

gillette_rightguarddeodorant_bornunicornOn the top shelf there’s Gillette Right Guard deodorant.

Behind the Scenes of the 2017 Vanity Fair Oscar Party: Reese Witherspoon

Reese Witherspoon didn’t walk the Oscars red carpet this year, but was among the guests of the Vanity Fair Oscar party, which took place at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills. The actress, who wore a lovely Michael Kors Collection dress, posted a picture of her dressing table on her Instagram stories. Let’s see what was on it.

charlottetilbury_wonderglow_bornunicornOn the back of the table there’s Charlotte Tilbury Wonder Glow face primer.

The silver eyeshadow in the black compact is Chanel Ombre Essentielle Soft Touch in #97 Infini.nars_bellissima_sycorax_bornunicornnarsissistpalette_bornunicornIn front and next to it there are two NARS eyeshadow. The duo is probably Bellissima, while the single is the Dual Intensity in Sycorax. There’s a NARSissist eyeshadow palette, too.

chantecaille-future-skin_bornunicornThere’s a jar of Chantecaille Future Skin foundation next to the NARS palette.

makeupforever_metalpalette_bornunicornNext to the Chanel eyeshadow, on the left, there’s a Make Up For Ever metal palette.

glossier_cloudpaint_bornunicornThe colourful tubes are a brand-new cheek colour by Glossier, which debuted yesterday on some celebrities. Molly R. Stern, Reese’s make-up artist, used the shade Dusk.

Last but not least, two NARS blushes in neutral colours.

The Silence of the Lambs (1991)

thesilenceofthelambs_bornunicorn

evianspray_bornunicornAfter much debate, I’ve come to terms with the fact that no Evian products were mentioned in the famous first dialogue between Hannibal Lecter and Clarice Starling. The point is that an Evian product actually appears in the movie and I’ve never noticed it before. It’s the classic mineral water spray with the pink cap, sitting on a chest of drawers in Clarice’s bedroom.

Gone Girl (2014)

Sex and the City S05E05 (Plus One Is the Loneliest Number)

kiehls_cucumberbathandshowercleanser_bornunicorn

Clarins Huile Tonic body treatment, Shiseido Pureness cleansing water, two cans of Evian mineral water spray and a Kiehl’s product (from the haircare or bodycare lines) can be seen in Samantha’s bathroom cabinet. She’s holding a tube of Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour cream.

On the same shelf, the white tube is from the Clinique haircare line: as suggested by Lee in the comments, this line had the white packaging with green lettering for a while.
