The Muppet Show S03E02 (Leo Sayer)

themuppetshow302_leosayer_bornunicornIn this episode of the Muppet Show, Miss Piggy comes face to face with one of her worst enemies, Annie Sue, introduced as “one of the Muppets’ delightful little ladies of song.” Annie is a fan of the primadonna, but her admiration is unrequited, so much that Miss Piggy kicks her out of her dressing room.

voldenuit_vintage_guerlain_bornunicornIn the scene above, you can see the flacon rayonnant of Guerlain Vol de Nuit. The woody powdery perfume, created by Jacques Guerlain in 1933, shows how refined the leading lady of the show is.

Opening Night (1977)

vlcsnap-2018-01-16-11h11m09s788 (2)One of the most famous scenes of the film is Myrtle Gordon (Gena Rowlands) putting on her signature lip colour just before hitting the stage. As you can see, she’s not holding a lipstick but a jumbo crayon. In the 1970s several beauty brands released make-up in crayon form, including Max Factor, which created the Pure Magic line.

maxfactorpuremagiccheekcrayon_bornunicornMyrtle uses the cheek crayon, bigger than the lip one. It would be interesting to know the exact shade she’s wearing, a beautiful bright pink shade.

Opening Night (1977)

piguetfracaseaudetoilette_bornunicornI am not surprised to see a big bottle of Robert Piguet Fracas eau de toilette on Myrtle Gordon’s dressing table. The troubled actress has a strong personality, what it takes to wear a larger-than-life white floral triumph like Fracas, created in 1948 by Germaine Cellier. The bottle has a white stopper, instead of the traditional black one.

Marianne Faithfull’s Dressing Table (1974)

guerlainshalimarcologne_bornunicornA flacon montre by Guerlain can be seen on the dressing table Marianne Faithfull was sitting at. This portrait was taken on February 15th, 1974 by Hoare. The black and white makes impossible to see the colour of the front sticker, hence to know what cologne it was. My guess is that it was a classic – Shalimar.

guerlainchantdaromesdeodorant_bornunicornThe spray bottle with the geometric stopper is another Guerlain product – the perfumed deodorant version of Chant d’Arômes, a perfume created by Jean-Paul Guerlain in 1962.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel S01E05 (Doink)

revlonvintagelipstick_bornunicornguerlainjicky_bornunicornThere are some Revlon lipsticks (with the ivory and gold case) on Midge’s counter. On a shelf nearby there’s a Guerlain flacon quadrilobe: impossible to say what scent it contains.

revlon_vintagenailpolish_bornunicornThe other make-up products on the counter are by Revlon but I couldn’t identify any of them. Some are original (see the Paint the Town Pink box) but the others seem generic items with the label Revlon on them. I couldn’t find any evidence that Revlon nail polish had ever had those bottles, for example, and the same can be said for the black and red compacts. This leaves me a bit perplexed. If Revlon allowed the production of the tv show to use its name, why didn’t they provide original vintage items?
