guerlainparquetbox_bornunicornSeveral perfumes appear in the opening credits of the 2nd season. First of all, some bouchon coeur flacons by Guerlain and their parquet boxes, originally introduced in the early 1910s for MitsoukoFol Arôme and L’Heure Bleue. The perfume in the box is the dabber version, while the two sitting on the counter are spray bottles.

mrselfridge_s02e01_bornunicorn (1)The red-lined box contains three perfumes by Selfridges – Fumaria Bouquet, Selene and Adne. At the time, Selfridges sold their own perfumes, but I haven’t found any information about these, so I guess they are props. All the bottles have pump atomisers.

Lady Primrose Royal Extract Body Cream_bornunicornLast but not least: some glass jars of Lady Primrose Thyrst body crème.

essie

clarins_eauressourcante_bornunicornThe cabinet in Tracy Legette’s bathroom is pretty interesting: there are three bottles of Guerlain Aqua Allegoria (two on the top shelf, another on the second one), some Essie nail polishes and Clarins Eau Ressourçante.

ballers_s02e02_bornunicorn (1)On the washbasin shelf there’s Yes To cucumber and eucalyptus liquid hand soap and Penhaligon’s Bayolea facial wash. This could also be the soothing gel or the cleansing mask (they have the same tube).

Stranger Things S01E03 (Holly, Jolly)

When Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) visits Nancy’s room, a pink bottle can be seen on her chest of drawers. A pink bottle with a human face painted on it.

It’s Avon Miss Lollypop cologne mist, which here appears sans white hat. This fragrance for girls was launched in 1967: according to the reviews I’ve read, it was a gourmand perfume, smelling like candy.

yardleyhairpomade_bornunicornWhen Lady Loxley (Katherine Kelly) visits Selfridges with her husband, Kitty Hawkins (Amy Beth Hayes) tells her the Yardley face cream she wanted has arrived. The teal glass jars displayed on the counter are by Yardley, but they originally contained English Lavender brilliantine.

On the same counter, some bottles of Lily of the Valley (an original Selfridges fragrance) can be seen.

guerlain_mitsoukospray_bornunicornThere’s a bottle of Guerlain Mitsouko on Ellen Love’s dressing table – a contemporary bottle which was given the vintage touch of an atomizer pump. Choosing this perfume may not be historically accurate – it was created in 1919, ten years after the time in which this episode takes place – but it totally suits Ellen’s vampy and flamboyant style.

vlcsnap-2015-05-03-01h50m19s122When Mr Selfridge asks his mistress to be the testimonial for the first Selfridges perfume, her mind immediately goes to one of her personal heroines – Emma Calvé, the most famous French opera singer of the Belle Époque. Ellen certainly loves the opera singer for being talented and successful, but is also fascinated by her lifestyle, which includes using Guerlain perfumes. Who knows? Maybe Ellen wears a Guerlain perfume herself to emulate her idol.

Endeavour S01E02 (Fugue)

Roy Adamson (Lex Shrapnel) keeps a perfume bottle in his desk drawer. It’s a fictional perfume, Amour Propre, which he puts on when he goes out on a date with Evelyn Balfour, a married woman. The name means “self-love,” a concept introduced by Jean-Jacques Rousseau, according to which esteem depends upon the opinion of others.
