The Shards S01E01 (Pilot)

Katherine (Molly Payton) is home alone. She hears strange noises and sounds outside of her house, but inside it’s not safe either. Seeing the content of her bathroom cabinet rearranged (all the products are upside down or lying sideways) gives us a taste of what’s coming for her and for Los Angeles.

Let’s see what the Trawler (this is the name of the serial killer envisioned by Bret Easton Ellis, author of the 2023 novel the TV show has been adapted from) has taken the time to mess with.

On the top shelf there’s a jar of Noxzema skin cream, which we will see in Bret’s bathroom later in the episode.

On the second shelf there’s a cardboard box containing Secret cream deodorant.

On the same shelf there’s a can of Barbasol shaving cream. The picture above comes from a 1980s commercial and shows exactly the can seen in the TV show.

On the third shelf the fragrance game finally starts.

The first bottle on the left is Ralph Lauren Safari For Men, a woody aromatic fragrance launched in 1992. Yes, let’s that sink in: 1992. The TV show is set in 1981, so this prop choice is historically inaccurate. Has it ever been a problem in the glossy fictional worlds created by Ryan Murphy? Absolutely not, so let’s just move on.

The green and white striped box hides a gem from the 1940s — Carven Ma Griffe, a chypre floral fragrance created by Jean Carles and launched in 1946. This is an unusual choice, but I’ll take it, because at least it’s historically accurate.

In the 1980s owning an Avon novelty bottle was an unwritten rule: it simply happened, whether one liked it or not. In this case, the white ceramic container is armoire-shaped and contains a perfumed bath oil.

The bottom shelf gives us other two perfumed products.

The tin bottle is a talcum powder shaker: it contains Avon Topaze.

There’s also a beautiful bottle of Nina Ricci L’air du temps eau de toilette. This floral fragrance, launched in 1948, was created by Francis Fabron.

The very last product is a spray can of Rayette Aquanet unscented hairspray.

Firefly Lane S01E03 (Dancing Queens)

Some interesting toiletries from the 1970s can be seen in the scene where Tully helps Lane shave her legs.

Second from the left, a bottle of Revlon Jean Naté after-bath splash.

Next, there’s a bottle of Body on Tap beer-enriched (?) shampoo.

Last, Tickle unscented roll-on deodorant.

Thanks to Alessandra for the screencap and ids.

Euphoria S01E09 (Trouble Don’t Last Always)

In the opening scene of this special episode, Rue (Zendaya) and Jules (Hunter Schafer) are reunited and happy. Jules is getting ready to go to school and Rue is watching her. On the dresser on the right, next to the lamp, there’s Schmidt’s lavender and sage deodorant.

The pink tube on the washbasin is Neutrogena oil-free pink grapefruit acne wash.

The liquid soap on the toilet tank cover is Love Beauty and Planet murumuru butter and rose liquid hand wash.

The peach pump bottle is Lime Crime Unicorn Hair color conditioner.

Last, the pink tiny box is a ColourPop limited-edition Jelly Much eyeshadow in No Rest for the Vivid.

Thanks to Stef for the Lime Crime conditioner and ColourPop eyeshadow ids.

We Are Who We Are E02 (Right Here, Right Now #2)

Among the toiletries in Caitlin’s parents’ bathroom, there are a bottle of Old Spice Classic cologne and Speed Stick deodorant.

When she moves into her own bathroom, we can see two Palmer’s products (coconut body oil in a spray bottle and cocoa butter formula).

The deodorant in the silver case is Old Spice Swagger.

The green bottle contains Galàn Moco de Gorila hair gel.

Glow S03E08 (Keep Ridin’)

Debbie (Betty Gilpin) visits Bobby (Kevin Cahoon) in his dressing room because she’s got an offer: she wants to produce the annual AIDS fundraiser he’s organising.

fabergeaquanetsuperhold_bornunicornHis dressing table is quite busy: on it I’ve spotted Sure deodorant and Aquanet super-hold hairspray.

The silver ball-topped perfume bottle just under Debbie’s wrist is kind of obsessing me: my instinct says it’s by Avon, but I haven’t been able to find any evidence. Any ideas about it?

Euphoria S01E01 (Pilot)

In the first part of the episode there’s a sequence showing several medicine cabinets from the several houses Rue and her family have lived in. There are many medicines, of course, but some beauty products and toiletries, too. In the screencap above, for example, we can see Hask Kalahari melon oil color protection deep conditioner.

In another cabinet there are Mitchum 48-hour protection stick deodorant, Aquaphor healing ointment and Gilchrist & Soames English Herb soap in Chamomile.
