Mlle Ghoul’s Perfume Collection

IMG_6123.JPGInstagram is a wonderland for perfume lovers. I’m proud to be part of a small community there, kindred spirits who are an endless source of inspiration. One of my reference points when it comes to unconventional perfume choices is definitely “the weaver of the weird”, the one and only Mlle Ghoul. When she posted this picture on her account, I jumped on my chair and started going through the perfume bottles to see how many of them I could identify (I know, that’s a problem but I can’t help it). Besides the perfume collection itself, I was in awe of the picture and its details, in particular the beautiful flower drawing on the wall and the hot pink diamanté skull sitting on the black cabinet on the left.

I was able to id some bottles – Dior Addict on the left, Guerlain L’Heure Bleue on the cabinet, some Serge Lutens perfumes, a couple of L’Artisan Parfumeur ones – but I decided to ask Sarah Elizabeth to tell me more about her favourite pieces of the collection, which is – her words – “getting out of hand”.

I am particularly fond of Norne by Slumberhouse (down in front on the left, the smaller bottle with no cap). 10 Corso Como, Kyoto by Comme des Garçons and Laura Tonatto’s Amir which is in the very back, you can see the round gold cap against the floral picture – are some favorites. Kyoto reminds me of a dark, cool temple in the middle of a forest. It is probably my all time pick, no matter how many other fragrances I collect!

Needless to say, Kyoto has gone straight into my wish-list!

BEYONCÉ’S 7/11 (2014)

I usually don’t cover music videos, but today I want to make an exception to the rule. A new Beyoncé video has just been released: 7/11 introduces the upcoming Beyonce: Platinum Edition box set. It’s a departure from the elaborate and dramatic videos of the American artist, which makes it even fresher and funnier. It looks like an amateur video; the impression is that Beyoncé wants us to see what her real life looks like. Everything seems plausible, casual and natural, in particular the setting (her house), but we can imagine that nothing has been left to chance. My favourite scenes are set in her magnificent bathroom: there’s a table covered in make-up products on one side and marble basins on the other side of the room. I’d love to identify all the items appearing in these scenes, but I’ve been able to id just a few – lots of MAC brushes, a bottle of Lubriderm moisture lotion and a golden can of L’Oreal Elnett Satin hairspray.

The song too is a departure from Beyoncé’s traditional repertoire. I probably prefer her old songs, but I enjoy artists who experiment with their music.

Lena Dunham’s Bathroom (2014)

IMG_6088.JPG

IMG_6089Yesterday Lena Dunham posted this picture on her Instagram account. She wore her pajamas and Allstate Foundation Purple Purse bag, a symbol of what the foundation does – supporting domestic violence survivors and the organizations that serve them. She snapped the picture in her bathroom and I couldn’t help but notice an empty Chanel no. 5 giant factice next to the wash-basin. This type of bottle is used in shops for display and it is filled with coloured water, but I think it’s nice to keep in a bathroom, too, especially if you’re a fan of that perfume. So does this mean Lena is a Chanel no. 5 wearer? I wouldn’t be surprised if she were.

His purchases include Bésame Cosmetics cake mascaras and lipsticks (in the trademark red velvet pouch) and Royalty hair nets (in their original 1950s packaging). He also buys compacts, hair clips, Band Aid tin boxes, satin headbands and eyelash curlers.

Giancarlo Giammetti, the honorary president of Valentino fashion house, posted this picture on his Instagram account. An elegant dresser, made of marble, glass and steel, “hides” a collection of ties; next to a luxuriant orchid pot, some perfumes can be seen. It looks like he’s a Serge Lutens fan; he certainly loves L’Eau Froide (there are two bottles of it). I’ve also spotted a Jo Malone bottle and Valentino’s latest men’s fragrance, Valentino Uomo.
