Hable con ella (2002)

Benigno Martín (Javier Cámara) is a personal nurse and caregiver: he looks after Alicia Roncero, a beautiful dancer he has been obsessed with even before she was in a coma. When he opens a cabinet in the girl’s hospital room to take a Pina Bausch’s autographed picture, we can see the products he uses on her.

Three of them are by Shiseido. The red drop-shaped bottle is Energizing Fragrance, a floral eau aromatique created by Claudette Belnavis and launched in 1999.

The tall bottles are from the Relaxing Fragrance line: the one on the left (with the shorter stopper) is the body lotion, while the one in the foreground is the fragrance. Hugely successful in the late 1990s (I used it myself for a while), it’s a floral green scent released in 1997.

There are some Chanel lipglosses on the left side of the cabinet, too.

And then a limited-edition bottle of Jean Paul Gaultier Classique, the powdery white floral masterpiece by Jacques Cavallier, first launched in 1993.

The Woman (Tilda Swinton) is applying mascara in front of a round mirror. The bathroom she’s in is tiled in different colours and is full of beauty products and toiletries.

Starting from the left red-tiled niche, I’ve identified:

Rochas Eau de Rochas bath and shower gel

Chanel La Crème Main hand cream

Perlier Honey Miel bath and shower cream and Thai Coco body lotion

Chanel Paris-Biarritz shower gel

Moving right, there’s the blue-tiled niche, where there are two hair products:

John Frieda Luxurious Volume Touchably Full conditioner

L’Oreal Extraordinary Oil oil-in-milk leave-in hair cream

Now there’s the washbasin counter, packed with bottles of medicines.

On the far left there’s a tube of Natura Bissé The Cure all-in-one cleanser.

There are two different bottles of elixirs by My Yébenes. The first on the left is Repair, while the second one (a bit further moving towards the right) is Resistance.

There’s also a jar of Natura Bissé C+C Vitamin face cream.

The first perfume bottle I’ve spotted is Hermès Eau de Citron Noir cologne.

Then there’s obviously the Chanel No. 5 factice.

There’s also a bottle of Chanel Les Beiges foundation among the medicine bottles.

Next, two products by Natura Bissé from the C+C Vitamin line – sun protection at the top left corner of the washbasin and micellar cleansing water next to the tap.

Moving back to the first screencap, all the right part of the counter is for Chanel make-up items. So we can see

There’s a box of Tonino Lamborghini Invincibile eau de toilette in Will’s bathroom. This fragrance was launched in 2018.

The green pump bottle on the left is Purell hand sanitizer (the front label has been removed).

The plastic bag in the background contains a discontinued product – Walgreens extended-angle floss picks.

When Johnny visits the woman in the window (Deborah MacLaren), we can see some beauty products on glass shelf. The brown spray bottle is Vidal Sassoon blow styling lotion. The bottle next to it looks like a talcum powder bottle; it reminds me of Crabtree & Evelyn old packaging, but not sure about it.

The floral bottle with silver stopper surely stirs some nostalgia: it’s the Cacharel best seller Anais Anais, a romantic white floral scent created in 1978 by Roger Pellegrino, Robert Gonnon, Paul Leger and Raymond Chaillan.

Nora (Connie Gilchrist) gets a Guerlain flacon montre of Shalimar cologne as a Christmas present from Mame. Nora is very excited: the fragrance (described as “French-smelling”) will make her feel “like Theda Bara“, one of the most popular and sexiest femme fatales of silent cinema.

Mucho Mucho Amor: The Legend of Walter Mercado (2020)

This documentary presents the aenigmatic and fascinating life of the astrologer Walter Mercado, who was interviewed in his home in Puerto Rico. There’s a domestic shot that piqued my interest, because many beauty products can be seen.

The black and white box is Frulatte Hyalunol anti-aging cream.

There’s also a No.7 box from the Restore and Renew line (old packaging).

The tall plastic bottle is Shea Moisture coconut and hibiscus brightening body lotion.

The polka dot box with gold details contains Carolina Herrera perfume, a white floral creation by Carlos Benaim, Clement Gavarry and Rosendo Mateu, launched in 1988.

The white and grey box is SkinSolve Tighter Clearer Younger anti-aging charcoal overnight cream.

And then there’s a box of Calvin Klein Obsession, the warm spicy fragrance created by Jean Guichard and launched in 1985. I personally thought Walter would have worn something more classic (Shalimar, maybe?), but Obsession is mysterious yet comforting, a description that could well be applied to Walter himself.
