Marianne Faithfull’s Dresser (1995)

Royall Lyme Bay Rhum eau de toilette and Roger & Gallet Jean Marie Farina Extra Vieille eau de cologne can be seen on a busy dresser in Marianne Faithfull’s house, This picture from 1995 was taken by Mark Arbeit.

Thanks to Jane Daly for the Royall Lyme id.

Saturday Night Fever (1977)

What would Tony Manero wear before dancing the night away at 2001 Odyssey? The screencap above gives us a couple of options, both by Fabergé.

The bottle with big gold stopper is Macho, an amber fougère fragrance launched in 1977. The “powerful new scent for men by Fabergé” seems to suit Manero’s bold and independent personality.

On the boy’s dresser there’s also a bottle of Vitalis Super Hold hairspray.

The second fragrance option is a classic – Fabergé Brut spray cologne housed in the signature tall bottle made of green glass. This aromatic fougère scent, created by Karl Mann, was first launched in 1964.

The Crown S05E07 (No Woman’s Land)

I am disappointed by the selection of beauty products that the show’s prop masters have put on Lady D’s dressing table. In general, this vanity looks sad (which makes sense) and old (which really doesn’t). None of the products and perfumes she used has been featured here, not even Penhaligon’s Bluebell, one of her signature scents [1].

The lipstick in the gold case is by Clarins. It’s sitting on a round compact probably by Christian Dior.

The white box with a funky red pattern is an Avon nail polish. This was a weird decision: what is a product from the 1970s doing here? Did the prop masters know this was Lady Diana’s vanity? Or they believed it belonged to one of her old relatives?

There’s also Braun Independent cordless styler.

On the far right there’s a nice aqua box by Estee Lauder. Although probably not totally accurate, at least it seems plausible.

[1] This particular detail hurts the most. Why were other Penhaligon’s perfumes featured in Seasons 1 and 2 and not here, where one authentic touch was so much needed?

Thanks to Scentimentalist for the Braun, Clarins and Dior id.

The White Lotus S02E04 (In the Sandbox)

Ethan and Harper’s hotel bathroom seems to be the place where meaningful conversations between husband and wife happen, but also the place where dramatic epiphanies happen (in this case Harper suspects Ethan has cheated on her).

The products seen in this scene have already been featured in the previous episodes.

The pump bottle contains Ortigia Ambra Nera bath and shower gel.

There’s also an Ortigia Gattopardo room fragrance diffuser.

The jar contains Clarins Hydra-Essentiel rich cream.

Not a perfume or a skincare product, but I just love the tray where two glasses sit. It’s another Ortigia product: it’s lacquered and handmade.

Madonna’s Bathroom (2022)

Madonna recently posted this picture on her Instagram account. Sitting on a bench and posing with a Balenciaga Hourglass bag (covered in scotch tape!), she gave us the opportunity to take a look around her luxurious marble bathroom.

The pump bottle on the bath top is Osea Undaria Algae body oil.

The body wash on the opposite side of the bath is Aveeno Skin Relief.

I am thankful to Madonna for giving us a glimpse of her fragrance shelves. Lots of interesting perfumes there.

Sitting on the top bottom there are three bottles by L’Artisan Parfumeur. Reading the front stickers is impossible, so there’s no way to tell what fragrances they contain.

Behind them there’s Stella McCartney Stella, a deep rose eau de parfum created by Jacques Cavallier and launched in 2003.

It’s often said that celebrities rarely wear the fragrances they launch. Madonna, like Elizabeth Taylor, is not one of them. A bottle of her Truth or Dare Naked sits on the second shelf. This amber spicy perfume was created by Stephen Nilsen and launched in 2012.

I could have never imagined Madonna to be an Artemisia kind of girl, but it’s nice to see a bottle of the Penhaligon’s milky powdery eau de toilette in her collection.

On the other hand, her love for Tom Ford perfumes is well-known, so seeing four of them on the bottom shelf is not surprising. The first from the left is Soleil Blanc, a coconut/white floral creation by Natalie Gracia-Cetto launched in 2016.

Next is Bitter Peach, an amber vanilla perfume launched in 2020.

There’s also a bottle of Diptyque Oyedo, a citrus eau de toilette created by Akiko Kamei and launched in 2000.

Another unsurprising find is Frederic Malle Carnal Flower, a white floral triumph [1] created by Dominique Ropion and launched in 2005.

The third Tom Ford perfume is Rose Prick, launched in 2020.

The last one is Lost Cherry, a bitter almond/sour cherry blend by Louise Turner launched in 2018.

[1] One of Madonna’s favourite notes is tuberose. For many years her name has been closely connected to Robert Piguet Fracas, the tuberose masterpiece by Germaine Cellier launched in 1948. Fracas appears in her documentary I’m Going to Tell You a Secret and in God Control music video, both directed by Jonas Åkerlund.

The White Lotus S02E03 (Bull Elephants)

While Tanya is busy with a tarot reader, her assistant Portia (Haley Lu Richardson) is asked to leave and go to the bathroom. This is a rare occasion in which we can take a look at the products that the most desperate character of the show uses.

The two Ortigia products we see on the marble counter – the Zagara room essence and the Bergamotto eau de parfum – are courtesy of the hotel.

Tanya uses another Italian product – the Aquatic Mint toothpaste by Marvis.

Her skincare includes two products by Eve Lom – the Radiance face oil and the Time Retreat radiance essence.

It’s nice to see the unmistakable blue bottle of an Italian drugstore staple – Roberts Acqua distillata alle rose.

Probably the most surprising item here is her fragrance of choice. Tanya wears Paco Rabanne Pure XS, an amber floral fragrance by Quentin Bisch launched in 2018. I expected her to wear something bolder and probably more nostalgic.

The White Lotus S02E03 (Bull Elephants)

Harper (Aubrey Plaza) wakes up early, so she can surprise her husband Ethan when he comes back from his morning running session.

In their marble hotel bathroom we can see toiletries already shown in the first episodes, plus some new items.

The pump bottle with the black palm is Ortigia Ambra Nera bath and shower gel.

The glass bottle next to it is another Ortigia product – the Gatto diffuser.

Harper’s skincare includes Erno Laszlo VTM micro-essence.

There’s also a bottle of MAC Fix + Magic Radiance hydrating spray.

Last, a bottle of Clinique gentle renewing cleansing mousse.
