In Camille’s bathroom there are a lily of the valley soap gift set by Saponificio Varesino and a small, almost empty bottle of Nina Ricci L’air du temps. Judging from the dark colour of the perfume left, it must have been something she used to wear as a teenager, when she still lived in Wind Gap, or it could be Adora’s.
Kitty Hawkins (Amy Beth Hayes) is mad at Frank Edwards (Samuel West): he tries to make up with her and visits the make-up counter at Selfridges. He asks for advice: he wants to give something special to someone special (her ;)). She plays along: she suggests “a new perfume” by Guerlain, which happens to be Mitsouko in the traditional flacon bouchon coeur. This is a historically accurate choice, because the perfume was created in 1919, around the time in which the tv show is set.
Other products she suggests are Yardley facial cream (in the dark green glass pot originally used for English Lavender brilliantine) and a Penhaligon’s soap.
Last but not least, she mentions Lady Primrose hand lotion: the beautiful fluted glass jar shown is actually used for the Royal Extract body cream.
When the Duke of Windsor (Alex Jennings) is interviewed by a magazine reporter, he opens the doors of his private rooms. Four perfumes and a soap can be seen among his toiletries.
The “good, well-milled soap” in the silver soap dish is by Floris. The first perfume on the left is by the same brand, which received the first Royal Warrant in 1820.
Reading the perfume label is impossible, but I’m pretty sure it could be Special N°127, a fragrance that the Duke of Windsor wore. Created in 1890 for Russia’s Grand Duke Orloff, it was originally named Orloff Special, but later renamed after the page in the ‘Specials’ formula book which the recipe was recorded in. It was regularly used by Eva Peron and Winston Churchill.
The second bottle from the left is Spanish Leather cologne by Geo F. Trumper, another historical London brand, established in the late 19th century by George Trumper, operating from a shop at 9 Curzon Street, in Mayfair.
The other two bottles are by Penhaligon’s. The one with the grey ribbon bow is Blenheim Bouquet: created in 1902, it was one of Winston Churchill’s favourite fragrances.
The one with the dark red ribbon bow is Hammam Bouquet, created in 1872 and inspired by the scent of the Turkish Baths on Jermyn Street, Piccadilly.

The cabinet in Tracy Legette’s bathroom is pretty interesting: there are three bottles of Guerlain Aqua Allegoria (two on the top shelf, another on the second one), some Essie nail polishes and Clarins Eau Ressourçante.
On the washbasin shelf there’s Yes To cucumber and eucalyptus liquid hand soap and Penhaligon’s Bayolea facial wash. This could also be the soothing gel or the cleansing mask (they have the same tube).
Several Roger & Gallet coffrets of three soaps are displayed in the cosmetic department.
From top to bottom, they are Rose, Gingembre, Thè vert, Jean Marie Farina and Lavande Royale. The choice of displaying these boxes is historically accurate: the third season is set just after the end of WWI, while Roger & Gallet round au chaudron soaps were first launched in 1879.
There’s a bottle of Dr. Bronner’s hemp peppermint pure-castile soap on the wash-basin where Sarah (Michelle Monaghan) and Cal (Hugh Dancy) are washing their hands.
There are a Dove soap and Colgate Cavity Protection toothpaste in Emily’s bathroom.
There’s a bar of Ivory soap in Will Byers’ bathroom.
