What Women Want (2000)

whatwomenwant_bornunicorn (12)One of the most important moments of the film is the introduction of the “pink box”, a box containing beauty and personal care products that women usually use. Darcy McGuire (Helen Hunt) is a newly-appointed manager at the Chicago advertising company where the film is set: she presents her staff with pink boxes to stir their curiosity and encourage their creativity.

Nick Marshall (Mel Gibson) is a chauvinist avertising executive who doesn’t like Darcy and her attitude. He is very skeptical when it comes to the pink box, but he ends up with trying every product in it; among them, Maybelline Great Lash mascara.

Girl, Interrupted (1999)

In the first picture above you can see two nail polishes from the 1960s: the shape of the glass bottles and the labels are reminiscent of the one appearing in the film. The second picture portrays Hello Sunshine, a “fun-shine nail tint” for girls which was launched in the 1970s; the screw cap is exactly the one seen in the film.

New York Stories: Life Without Zoe (1989)

I’m posting a picture of Rouge Noir because it’s the first Chanel dark polish which comes to my mind, but it’s clear it can’t be the shade seen in this film. As a matter of fact, Rouge Noir was released in 1995, six years after New York Stories.
