zpalette_bornunicornThere are lots of make-up products in Chanel Oberlin’s dressing table drawer. From left to right: there is a MAC 190 foundation brush, along with Dior Diorshow Maximizer lash plumping serum in the white tube, L’Oreal Color Riche eyeshadow quad (the shade could be Cupa Joe #839 or Because You’re Worth It! #841), two Stila Lip Glaze glosses, a MAC lip liner and a black Z Palette with depotted blushes and eyeshadows.

macslimshine_bornunicornChuck Charles (Anna Friel) is wearing a MAC Slimshine lipstick.

I asked David De Leon (the show’s make-up artist) if he remembered the exact shade, but he didn’t. The episode aired on October 8th, 2008, so it was shot some months earlier; MAC launched Slimshine lipsticks in 16 shades in May 2007: we can assume one of those first shades was used on the actress. My guess is Pink d’Lush, described as bright pink-coral.

Scream S01E09 (The Dance)

screams01e09_bornunicorn (1)I love Emma’s look in this episode, which focuses on a Halloween party. Emma’s costume is a homage to Pulp Fiction‘s Mia Wallace – white shirt and black cropped pants, black pageboy hair, red nails and matching lips. While she’s getting ready for the event, some interesting items can be seen on her dressing table.

1930sMascara_grandeThere are a bottle of Schwarzkopf got2b Smooth Operator leave-in conditioner and a bottle of Sally Hansen nail polish in a beige shade, probably Without a Stitch. There’s also a gold tube of Bésame mascara, with the trademark bullet shape and chrysantemum motif.

dior999lipstick_bornunicornI was a bit on the fence when it comes to her lipstick: the tube looked Dior to me but I was not sure. Thanks to the show’s make-up artist, Ashley Walsh, now I know I was right. Ashley explained she used several shades on Willa Fitzgerald, including the Dior that appears in this scene (N°999) and Bésame Red Hot Red.

Orange is the New Black S03E05 (Fake It Till You Fake It Some More)

Orange_is_the_New_Black_S03E05_1080p__0368Galina Reznikov’s nickname is Red, not without a reason: red hair, fingernails and lipsticks are her trademarks. Despite living in a prison, she uses a luxury lipstick, which happens to be from the Noir collection by Julie Hewett. Two are the possible shade options.

juliehewett_femmenoir_bornunicornThis is Femme Noir, a classic blue-based 30s scarlet red. It was worn by Lily Rabe as Sister Mary Eunice in American Horror Story: Asylum.

juliehewett_rougenoir_bornunicorn

This is Rouge Noir, a 40s-inspired true movie-star red. Even if the two colours are quite similar, I think Femme Noir is the best guess, since it’s cooler and bluer than Rouge Noir.

Mr Selfridge S01E03

houbigant_quelquesfleurspowder_bornunicorn

houbigant_vintagefacepowder_bornunicornValerie Maurel (Joséphine de la Baume) works for the American advertising agency J. Walter Thompson. Mr Selfridge asks her to give him advice on whether to sell make-up products on the store’s new beauty counters. She shows Mr Selfridge and department heads some make-up items, among which a yellow loose powder box. This is Houbigant Quelques Fleurs powder box, with the trademark flower basket on the lid. Houbigant was founded in Paris in 1775, but this specific face powder was released in the 1940s. The choice is historically inaccurate, but I must admit it’s convincing.

I’m a bit on the fence when it comes to identifying the exact shade used by Juliette: I do believe she’s applying it on top of a red lipstick, but it’s definitely a matching red colour.

clinique_intensechubbystick_heftiesthibiscus_bornunicornclinique_chubbystick_twotontomato_bornunicornIt could be Heftiest Hibiscus (if it were the intense moisturizing lip colour balm) or Two Ton Tomato (if it were the moisturizing lip colour balm).
