Pedantic archivist of beauty products in films and tv shows

The Sopranos S05E05 (Irregular Around the Margins)

There are some interesting beauty products in Adriana and Christopher’s bathroom.

On the shelf behind the girl there’s a tall Jo Malone bottle. It’s unclear what product it is but, judging from the light content, it could be shampoo.

The moment in which Adriana (Drea De Matteo) opens a mirrored cabinet reveals more items.

The silver can with blue bands on the top shelf is Zirh Clean alpha-hydroxy face wash for men.

On the top shelf there’s a bottle of Vaseline Intensive Care Advanced Healing lotion. I couldn’t find any exact pictures of it but you can see the packaging in a 2002 commercial.

The dark blue box sitting in the middle shelf is Boucheron Pour Homme.

There’s a NARS box, too. White packaging has usually been associated to the brand’s skincare line, but online there’s no evidence of the original products launched in 2002, so I don’t have any visual reference.

Thanks to Alessandra for submitting this post and thanks to Scentimentalist in the comments for the Zirh ID.

The Power S01E08 (Just a Girl)

Margot (Toni Collette) keeps some perfumes and beauty products on her mirrored vanity.

On the far left there’s a bottle of Issey Miyake L’Eau d’Issey eau de toilette, a floral aquatic fragrance by Jacques Cavallier launched in 1992.

Next to it there’s Elizabeth Taylor White Diamonds, a floral aldehyde fragrance created by Carlos Benaim and launched in 1991.

On the right side of the table there’s a bottle of Calvin Klein Escape, a floral aquatic fragrance created by Claude Dir and launched in 1991.

On the vanity there’s also a jar of Estee Lauder Re-Nutriv cream.

Thanks to Jane Daly for submitting this post and to Jernê Knowles for the Calvin Klein id.

Medusa Deluxe (2022)

The last part of the film is set after the main tragic events told previously. Cleve and Angel have a conversation in the hairdresser’s dressing room during another hairdressing competition. The camera pans over the room, giving us the chance to see several haircare products.

There are a can of TRESemmé hairspray and a bottle of Natessance ricin shampoo.

There’s also Osmo Deep Moisture shampoo or conditioner in a pump bottle.

Medusa Deluxe (2022)

Divine (Kayla Meikle) holding little Pablo in her arms gives us the chance to take a look at the table in front of her.

On it we can see a bottle of Simple micellar cleansing water (or facial toner).

There’s also a bottle of Aunt Jackie’s Curls & Coils Oh So Clean! moisturizing and softening shampoo.

When the camera moves, we can also see a bottle of African Pride Olive Miracle olive and tea tree growth oil treatment.

The Return of the Pink Panther (1975)

Lady Claudine Litton (Catherine Schell) keeps several beauty products and perfume bottles on a mirrored vanity in her bathroom.

The bottle that immediately catches the attention is the Guerlain flacon montre. It has a teal disk on the front label, which means the eau de cologne in it is Mitsouko.

There’s also a bottle of Rochas Madame Rochas eau de toilette.

Last, a refillable atomiser by Nina Ricci. From the details of the metal section and from the size of the bottle, it could be the atomiser of L’air du Temps. The bottle seen in the film is not decorated with gold doves, though.

Thanks to Jane Daly for submitting this post.

American Horror Story S12E04 (The Vanishing Twin)

Virginia (Debra Monk) pays a visit to her son Dexter and his wife Anna. The skincare products she keeps on her dressing table are by Tata Harper.

The jar contains Water-Lock moisturizer.

The pale green bottle contains Superkind bio-barrier serum.

American Horror Story S12E02 (Rockabye)

Anna (Emma Roberts) checks her make-up on a gold Stratton compact.

This is the second vintage sighting in this season, which is unusual because it is set in present day. I wonder if these details are leading somewhere in terms of plot or character development.

Thanks to Hillary, the lovely curator of the one and only Makeup Museum, for the id.

American Horror Story S12E03 (When the Bough Breaks)

When Anna receives a gift basket from Hamish, we can see some interesting beauty products in it.

The two pump bottles on the left are Soap Cherie body oils – Orchid and Morning Rose.

The larger bottle is Aesop geranium leaf body cleanser.

There’s another Soap Cherie product: it’s the Magnolia body lotion.

Last, there’s a bottle of Malin+Goetz advanced renewal moisturizer.

American Horror Story S12E01 (Multiply Thy Pain)

Talia (Juliana Canfield) wears a lipstick in a beautiful red shade.

From the studded gold tube we can see it’s a vintage product.

It’s a Max Factor lipstick from the 1940s.

The brand has been endorsed by a huge number of cinema stars over the years. In the specific case of this lipstick, advertised as “the most wonderful lipstick in the world”, in 1947 it was endorsed by Lana Turner as Ginny Marshland from the film Cass Timberlane (1947) by George Sidney.

Talia gives the lipstick to Anna (Emma Roberts). Later in the episode, the protagonist wears it to attend a vernissage at her husband’s art gallery.

Although the lipstick actually worn by Talia and Anna is most definitely not the Max Factor one, I appreciate the fact that the vintage blue red shade was replicated.
