Pedantic archivist of beauty products in films and tv shows

Bagnomaria (1999)

Mara (Manuela Arcuri) is holding a blue compact which, to my 1990s mind, screams Christian Dior.

Effets d’Ombre is a compact that includes five powder eye-shadows.

We can see it in a 1992 advert, when Dior was in the talented hands of the Italian designer Gianfranco Ferré, who replaced Marc Bohan and worked for the maison from 1989 to 1996.

Black Doves S01E04 (Go Bang Time)

There are some interesting products on Helen’s dressing table.

The dark blue bottle with gold detail is Dior Addict, a white floral fragrance created by Thierry Wasser and Christian Dussoulier, and launched in 2002, at the peak of John Galliano’s residency at Dior.

Next to it there’s a bottle of Skinfood Royal Honey Propolis enrich essence.

Last, we can see a bottle of Findley Vitamin C & Hyaluronic Acid eye serum.

Someone’s Watching Me (1978)

The distinctive black bottle sitting on a dresser in Leigh’s bedroom is Lanvin’s iconic boule noire containing Arpége, a floral aldehyde fragrance created by Paul Vacher and Andre Fraysse and launched in 1927.

The advert above dates back to 1978, the year in which the film was released, and shows exactly the bottle seen in the film.

The hairbrush on her dresser is by Mason Pearson.

The Righteous Gemstones S04E07 (For Jealousy is the Rage of a Man)

There’s a mischievous monkey helper in the Gemstones’ household: they target a specific item in Judy’s make-up stash just to cause trouble.

They get to the point of tossing it away from the marble counter.

The item in question is Gucci Poudre de Beauté Mat Naturel face powder.

Graduation Day (1981)

There are many interesting fragrances on the vanity shown in the screencap above.

The first bottle on the left is Revlon Jontue, a floral green fragrance launched in 1976.

The bottle with the pink front label is Avon Sweet Honesty, a floral fragrance launched in 1973.

Next, there’s a bottle of Avon Unspoken, a woody floral fragrance launched in 1975.

The pink box on the right side of the vanity is Evyan White Shoulders gift set containing the eau de cologne version of the fragrance, scented body powder and powder puff.

Thanks to LePetitCivet for submitting this post, and to Clayton in the comments for the Unspoken id.

Crossing Delancey (1988)

There are two interesting products on Isabelle’s dresser.

One is Cacharel Anais Anais, even though just the box is visible. This floral fragrance, created by Roger Pellegrino, Robert Gonnon, Paul Leger and Raymond Chaillan, was launched in 1978 and gained huge popularity in the following decade.

The other is a Clinique classic – Dramatically Different moisturising lotion.
