sherlock_theabominablebride_bornunicorn (6)A veiled Mary Morstan Watson (Amanda Abbington) pretends to be a new client: she hasn’t seen her husband for a while and this is apparently the only way she has to meet him. John (Martin Freeman) doesn’t recognize her (she’s veiled!), but Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) obviously does: he recognizes her from her perfume, thanks to his excellent sense of smell.

You may remember that the connection between Mary and perfumes is not new: in His Last Vow (the third episode of the third season), her perfume – the fictional Claire de la Lune – had an important function in the plot.
